WHY SHOULD YOU SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE HUMANITY?
THE S BARTENDER AND COUNT ME IN COCKTAIL
In a few weeks, I will be packing for Sydney, Australia, where I will represent Spain, as the winner of the Spanish World Class, at the global final in September, the biggest competition for bartenders in the world. One of the challenges of the competition, that of Ketel One, is to create an initiative that will be inspired by the community and positively impact it.
So, after days of thinking, my wife Nicoletta and I came up with the idea of "Sustainable Humanity." We often hear or read about sustainable production methods for sustainability or sustainability in matters that concern the burden on the environment from human intervention. Our eye rarely catches something related to "Sustainable Humanity"!
What is "Sustainable Humanity"?
Most people, once they finish school, whether they decide to study or not, start working and becoming productive in society. Among the community members, there is also a category of people with special needs such as autism, Down's syndrome, Asperger's, or ADHD. Usually, after age 18, there is no state support or help. These people end up working as librarians, delivery drivers, at gas stations, or not working at all or working part-time, resulting in not being paid the right amount of money and being unable to become financially independent.
"Sustainable Humanity" is a manual that provides basic hospitality knowledge, especially bartending. The main difference between this textbook is that it is designed for people with special needs, and all the training provided by "Sustainable Humanity" is done through images and social skills topics.
Why does "Sustainable Humanity" need to take shape?
As we know, people with special needs are often isolated, and people don't know how to treat them. One of the positive elements of "Sustainable Humanity" is that it dramatically develops the sociability of people with special needs; they create friendships, a social environment, and better living conditions. But the most important thing is that they enter with an active role in society and are no longer a "stress" in their family for the course of their future.
Who is S Bartender?
S Bartender is an adult with special needs (autism, down syndrome, ADHD, etc.) who has received training through the "Sustainable Humanity" manual. After this training, the adult could potentially be responsible for the smooth running of a bar.
How could such an initiative work?
The object of Sustainable Humanity could be achieved by adequately educating adults with special needs through images and social situations in which they will know how to behave during their bar shift. S Bartenders can work and offer services generally in the catering area.
Of significant importance is that they should be paid a regular amount of money while catering businesses will give a part of their salary to communities with special needs to continue their work. This way, adults with high-functioning special needs will be able to work in restaurants or bars. At the same time, the money given by businesses will fund and support the other centers. Another measure is creating a separate tip box for the S Bartenders, the collected amount of which will go to the disabled communities. As they will be working in a suitable work environment, S Bartenders will also have proper health insurance and an extra income for their retirement.
The #countmeincocktail
"Sustainable Humanity" was inspired by the local community of Ibiza (Spain), but we soon realized that it can be applied globally. For that reason, we created #countmeincocktail for anyone in the world, within the unique touch of the local community.
This cocktail can be included on menus worldwide, and guests who see it know that an S Bartender works in that business.
The #countmein cocktail consists of fermented ingredients as fermentation is a food processing technique that helps avoid food waste. Fermentation is also a technique that takes place with the contribution of time and not so much with human intervention. Since ancient times, people have used the fermentation technique to preserve and enjoy seasonal foods all year round.
Just as every person with special needs is unique, every country on the planet has its uniqueness. Each country could replace the S Formula ingredients with their local products. And finally, "garnish with good" as the challenge requires since the cocktail garnish is four edible stripes of paint in the colors of autism.
Why support Sustainable Humanity and #countmeincocktail?
Because in the human society of 2022, no one should be isolated, and everyone should participate in everyday social life. Everyone should be an active community member even if they don't have the same capabilities as others.
For such an initiative to take place, the contribution of all of us is needed, especially the large multinational companies active in the catering industry. It takes a lot of effort, a lot of patience, and a lot of commitment - just like all the good things in life. We came up with the idea, shall I #countyouin to make it happen? Read more here!
